Job Details

Coventry City Council’s Library and Information Service is a public facing service operating for the benefit of local communities and the wider city.   
Providing services from the central library and 16 local libraries (3 of which are community led) Coventry libraries provide a unique 'cradle-to-grave' service bringing individuals and communities together.   
Public libraries acquire, organise and provide access to a range of information and reading resources to meet the diverse needs of a community.  We actively support independent learning and encourage reader development, also providing information on areas such as:

  • Local and national government services, 
  • Learning opportunities,  
  • Leisure activities, and  
  • Local community news and events  

We also play an important role in providing access to computers and the internet for those who are digitally excluded.   
The Library Service works in partnership with local, regional and national organisations to provide a full and wide-ranging service offer.  Partners include: 

  • Arts Council England 
  • BBC  
  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport 
  • Libraries Connected  
  • Public Health England, and  
  • Reading Agency 

Libraries are uniquely placed to change lives for the better. They are busy and vibrant open spaces, not only providing access to books but also helping people to help themselves and improve their opportunities. By providing practical support and guidance, libraries play a critical role in enabling and empowering people to realise their potential, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

What is the job role?

From 2021 to 2022, the Library Service will be running an innovative Digital Culture Programme across several libraries and including community outreach working with our strategic delivery partner, The Space.

The Space is a not-for-profit digital support agency that works with cultural organisations to improve their digital content skills and their ability to reach and engage audiences online. Founded by Arts Council England and the BBC, The Space has supported more than 800 UK organisations with their digital development and commissioned more than 300 digital projects.

The programme aims to introduce more members of the public to digital cultural experiences and content, including immersive/VR content, and to provide relevant digital skills training to libraries staff. The programme is funded by Coventry City Council, Arts Council England with support from the BBC and other partners. It will run in parallel with Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 activities.

This fixed term, project management role, for 37 hours per week, ending December 2022, will co-ordinate the delivery of the programme and management of programme partners and suppliers. 

Main duties include 

  • Project Manage the delivery of Coventry Libraries Digital Culture Project.  Main duties will include
    • manage the delivery plan
    • budget management
    • managing partnerships
    • producing reports
    • risk management
  • Work with appointed training providers on a staff digital training programme
  • Managing the delivery of an events programme ensuring that users accessibility requirements are met
  • Manage the marketing and promotion of the events programme
  • Co-ordinate the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data from the events programme and subsequent analysis into an evaluation report
Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has good organisational project manager skills with experience of delivering public facing projects.  You will need to have knowledge of digital systems and their potential for use in a library service context, including social media and online content publishing.

You will need to have good communication and marketing skills and be able to display strong motivational skills showing initiative and self-reliance.
