Birmingham is changing….and fast! The city is booming as it sees billions of pounds of investment in major development and infrastructure projects. We are looking for the most talented and knowledgeable Traffic Managers to join our team to help shape the future of our city.

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced and motivated Traffic Managers to join an exceptional team at a senior level. Reporting directly into the Head of Transport Planning and Network Strategy, you will play a fundamental role in managing and minimising the cumulative network disruption impact resulting from an unprecedented level development activity and infrastructure investment.

With a key focus on the city centre and complex infrastructure projects and major events, successful candidates will coordinate, advise on and approve, temporary and permanent network/traffic management proposals on the highway. Alongside this you will proactively propose and lead delivery of network management solutions and mitigation strategies to assist delivery.

As well as being fully conversant with the Traffic Management Act 2004 you will have significant experience of managing the interface with key partners and stakeholders including: statutory undertakers; private developers; Highways England; WMCA/TfWM; and Department for Transport.

If working on projects such as HS2, the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the transformation of the city centre, Perry Barr and East Birmingham sounds like a golden opportunity, these specialist roles could be the perfect opportunity for you.

You will possess management/supervisory experience in a highway related discipline and have a detailed understanding of traffic management around complex infrastructure projects, new developments and associated traffic regulation orders. An in-depth knowledge of activities that affect movement on the highway and all other relevant aspects of the statutory Network Management Duty as described in the Traffic Management Act 2004 is required.

You will have experience of practical involvement in a wide range of highway related projects including significant experience of formulating and developing network management strategies and traffic management schemes within an urban environment. You will have significant experience working with a range of delivery partners (public and private sector), elected Members and stakeholders, as well as having strong communication, leadership, partnership working and project management skills.

You will be supported with your continuous professional development. You will get a minimum of 29 days holiday allowance per year, the opportunity to join a market leading pension scheme and enjoy an impressive package of other health and wellbeing benefits including our flexible working policy, and discounts with some of the UKs top retailers, fashion and tech brands.

For informal enquiries please contact: mel.jones@birmingham.gov.uk

Interviews for this post will take place virtually via video conferencing. Shortlisted candidates will be provided with further information.

Right to work in the UK documentation will be fully checked for all applicants. All non-UK applicants (excluding Ireland) may require a Certificate of Sponsorship from Birmingham City Council and must have an approved visa from the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) before any employment offer can be confirmed. Unless they are an EEA or Swiss citizen or their family members, already living in the UK by 31 December 2020, then they will need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) instead
