We are looking to recruit a Senior Arboricultural Officer to work within our planning services teams (Scale J - 37 hours £32,234 to £35,745 per annum plus Essential Car User Allowance of up to £1k).

Planning for South Staffordshire

South Staffordshire is a diverse district with rich and varied landscapes where the natural environment plays an important role.  Following the retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an experienced Arboricultural Officer to take the reins in providing professional arboricultural advice on planning applications and policy and to assist in with enforcement.

You will need experience of carrying out tree surveys, woodland managements principles, the preparation, administration and enforcement of Tree Preservation Orders and Hedgerow Regulations, and the monitoring of trees in Conservation Areas.

The Senior Arboricultural Officer will be based within Development Management but will work closely with colleagues in the preparation of policy in Local Plans and in the enforcement and breaches of conditions being dealt with by our Planning Enforcement team.

South Staffordshire is made up of a collection of large and small villages, each with its own distinctive character set in an attractive semi-rural area on the western edge of the West Midlands conurbation.  Around 80% of the district is Green Belt and we have a rich legacy of historic buildings and historic landscapes. We have many woodland areas, including Ancient Woodland, 19 Conservation Areas and a high number of protected trees across the District.

Why work for South Staffordshire Council?

We are an award-winning Council that has lots to offer.  We support flexible and agile ways of working, so candidates from further afield are welcomed.  You would need to be able to make regular team meetings in Codsall when necessary and undertake site visits locally, but we already have team members successfully working remotely.  We have strong IT support, great access by road to the Council offices in Codsall and free car parking. We’re located within a 5-minute walk of Bilbrook train station which is a short journey from Wolverhampton station and 25 minutes from Birmingham New Street.  Our main offices in Codsall are soon to be undergoing modernisation and refurbishment to provide a real community hub with partner organisations, local businesses, library, doctors surgery and cafe all in one central location.

Closing Date for Applications:  If you would like to join our forward-thinking planning team, please apply by 22 March 2021

Interview Dates: week commencing 29 March 2021.

You are welcome to contact Lead Planning Manager, Kelly Harris, for an informal discussion about the vacancies by calling 01902 696317 or by e-mailing
