Permanent contract

The Tamworth Local Plan was adopted in early 2016 and is key to promoting development and growth within the area. This is being realised with a number of new developments and planning applications for new urban extensions coming forward. It is necessary to start to consider the need for a new Local Plan to ensure that development needs will be met into the future. The challenge that Tamworth faces is that it is spatially restrained by the geographical size of the Borough. It is therefore necessary to work with neighbouring authorities to ensure that development can be delivered.

The Borough has a wealth of unique heritage assets, green and blue infrastructure, unrivalled shopping and leisure facilities as well as excellent transport links and strong interest from the development sector. The successful candidate will be required to deliver the aspirations of the Development Plan through a series of exciting regeneration and development projects. The most exciting regeneration scheme is the successful award of £21.65 million of future high streets funding. The transformational change that the town centre will undergo through a series of diverse projects over the coming years will require significant input from the planning team.

The ideal candidate will already have experience of working in a planning policy environment and have a recognised planning qualification.

Knowledge and application of I.T. systems to support the development and monitoring of the Local Plan including GIS will be important.

The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, health scheme, LGPS pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work in the UK check and medical clearance.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Anna Miller, Assistant Director - Growth and Regeneration on 07891 285617.

For further details and an application form please email recruitmentapps@tamworth.gov.uk  or visit our website www.tamworth.gov.uk.

Closing date: 12th March 2021

Late applications and/or CVs will not be accepted.  Agencies need not apply. We welcome applications from all sectors of the community. This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks required for relevant posts.
