We are currently recruiting for a Head of Safety and Environmental Health who will be Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s lead offer and advisor on matters relating to Environmental Health and Occupational Health and Safety.
The postholder is responsible for the organisation and monitoring of the work of the Environmental Health, Licensing and the Corporate Health and Safety Teams ensuring the effective delivery of these services and will represent the Council at cross functional working groups with other local Authorities and/or public services/external organisations.
The postholder is also required to develop and maintain systems which comply with national and regional frameworks and guidelines and will negotiate contracts and agreements for the delivery of services.
In addition there is a responsibility for reporting to and attending management and Committee meetings where appropriate and to initiate, defend and participate in legal proceedings on behalf of the Council.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Recent experience within Environmental Health as an Environmental Health Officer and experience of Occupational Health and Safety with a good knowledge of current health and safety legislation and a good understanding of government programmes and external issues affecting Environmental Health and Local Government.
Must have excellent supervision, communication, negotiation, presentation and budgetary skills and able to manage multi-disciplinary projects.
Experience of working effectively with external organisations, local communities and multi-agency forums and have political awareness within a Local Government environment.
Experience of managing a team and the achievement of performance related targets and audit procedures.
