We aim to help our young people overcome social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) in order to manage their behaviour and make considered choices.
We are seeking a passionate and committed Teacher of Science at The Orchard Centre to deliver at Key Stages 3 and 4 including GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications.
You will be expected to have:
experience of working with young people with SEMH and particularly challenging behaviour
a proven track record of good communication and organisation
an interest in all aspects of the Science curriculum and inspirational ways to deliver it
an understanding of health and safety and a willingness to attend training
You will create and deliver engaging lessons to a diverse group of young people at all levels taking into account group and individual needs and learning styles and will inspire, motivate and promote enthusiasm for learning and for the subject, adhering to national curriculum standards. The teaching role forms a central part of the work within the subject area and you will work closely with colleagues to support, develop and further extend the work of the subject and the experiences of the young people.
Duties and responsibilities include:
teaching young people based on national curriculum guidelines within the specialist subject area
adapting and reassessing lesson plans to meet specific young people’s needs, complying with newly implemented guidelines or frameworks, and to update relevant information which may include new developments in education
adapting the curriculum to meet young people’s needs while maintaining overall class progress
assessing and reporting on academic levels, identifying gaps in learning and areas for improvement/intervention
delivering appropriate qualifications to meet the needs of young people and ensure entries are relevant to maximise young people’s outcomes
encouraging young people’s participation in lessons and in other school related activities
providing a safe, positive learning environment for young people, promoting safety and respect for all
supporting the leadership team to implement the Centre’s Development Plan
assessing and reporting on the behaviour and SEMH needs of young people
providing educational and social guidance to young people and/or signposting them to specialist areas of advice where appropriate
engaging in opportunities to boost personal learning and continuous professional development (CPD)
communicating with parents and other relevant professionals where appropriate
