We aim to help our young people overcome social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) in order to manage their behaviour and make considered choices.

We are seeking a passionate and committed Teacher to promote and establish a new nurture base ‘Rising Stars’ at The Orchard Centre and to deliver a range of curriculum subjects at Key Stages 2 and 3.

You will be expected to have:

  • experience of working with young people with SEMH and particularly challenging behaviour
  • a proven track record of good communication and organisation
  • an interest in all aspects of the curriculum including Nurture Group work and inspirational ways to deliver it
  • an understanding of health and safety and a willingness to attend training

You will create and deliver engaging lessons to a diverse group of young people who are identified as requiring a specific ‘nurture’ focus to their learning and will inspire, motivate and promote enthusiasm for learning through creative approaches in collaboration with a range of subject specialists in order to meet individual learning and SEMH needs. The teaching role forms a central part of the work within this newly established area and you will work closely with colleagues and Leaders to support, develop and further extend the programme in order to maximise the experiences of the young people.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • teaching young people based on national curriculum guidelines within the specialist subject area
  • adapting and reassessing lesson plans to meet specific young people’s needs, complying with newly implemented guidelines or frameworks, and to update relevant information which may include new developments in education
  • adapting the curriculum to meet young people’s needs while maintaining overall class progress
  • assessing and reporting on academic levels, soft skill development, identifying gaps in learning and areas for improvement/intervention
  • delivering appropriate programmes to meet the needs of young people to maximise young people outcomes
  • encouraging young people’s participation in lessons and in other school related activities
  • providing a safe, positive learning environment for young people, promoting safety and respect for all
  • supporting the leadership team to implement the Centre’s development plan
  • assessing and reporting on the behaviour and SEMH needs of young people
  • providing educational and social guidance to young people and/or signposting them to specialist areas of advice where appropriate
  • engaging in opportunities to boost personal learning and continuous professional development (CPD)
  • communicating with parents and other relevant professionals where appropriate
