Help make an Everyday Breakthrough happen by joining our team.

A breakthrough can seem like the smallest thing, but it can make the world of difference to someone on the autism spectrum. By becoming a Learning Mentor at The National Autistic Society you’ll help make Everyday Breakthroughs happen more often.

Who we are looking for

We are a forward thinking Autism Specific Specialist Free School seeking Learning Mentors with a passion for improving life outcomes for every learner.

We were inspected in November 2017. The School was rated as Good overall, with outstanding in personal development, behaviour and welfare.  The school was also Autism Accredited in January 2019.

Supported by the National Autistic Society Academies Trust and National Autistic Society, we cater for up to 70 students aged 4-19 with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. As a part of the NAS Academies Trust, we have developed significant professional and working partnerships with the already established Independent NAS schools and other NASAT Free School drawing on knowledge and expertise through professional working relationships to ensure best practise is shared.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the school’s development where you will be working closely with the Class Teacher and HLTA’s to support a small class of young people with a diagnosis of Autism.

We aim to deliver the highest level of education and experiences to ensure the best life chances become a sustainable reality for every young person (on an individual needs led basis). Together, we will create a safe, positive and structured environment in which every young person is respected and encouraged to achieve independence (through academic, employment and personal skills development).

To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate a desire for improving pupil outcomes (including those of high aspiration and vision). You will also offer a flexible approach to your role and be confident to support a range of subjects in a small group and across various levels of academic ability.

Being a Learning Mentor takes bravery, patience and commitment. But working with autistic people gives so much more in return.

We need you to be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of autistic people.

Along with a host of benefits – from shopping discounts to flexible working and a competitive pension scheme - we’ll make sure you get excellent autism-specific training to help further your career.

You may have a personal connection, a desire to work with or real life experiences working with autistic people. If you share our Values and are willing to make a difference to the lives of autistic people, we’d love to hear from you.
