Who we need

If you are ready for your next challenge we have an exciting opportunity within our Swift Development team, as the Swift Project Delivery Lead.

The successful individual will be able to demonstrate experience in delivering projects in a fast moving technology environment. The continuous programme of work will ensure that current and future customers continue to have the most comprehensive and convenient public transport ticketing options in the short and longer term, including contactless payment and best value capping similar to that available in London.

In the role of Swift Project Delivery Lead, you will ensure that good project disciplines including planning, scheduling, resource and budget management, are combined with an agile approach as part of a wider delivery team, to provide customer solutions designed to support our vision of ‘creating a happier, healthier and better connected West Midlands region through improving transport’.

The landscape and importance of transport is changing rapidly and this role offers a great opportunity to play a key part in this vital area.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing project resources, supplier and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of projects.  The role includes a substantial amount of working with suppliers and stakeholders, therefore excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills are a pre-requisite

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

We are committed to developing an organisation that is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from all sections of the community.  The following groups are currently under-represented: young people, Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups and women at senior levels.

Wherever possible we will offer flexible working options which assist work-life balance and support service delivery for the customer.

About the team

The Swift team provide public transport ticketing options, using smartcards, on all buses, trains and trams across the West Midlands. One in three public transport journeys are made with Swift each year and this is increasing continually. Swift has its current and future customers’ requirements at its heart. The team are always looking for innovative ways to increase, even further, the simplicity of obtaining and using Swift. The Swift team have worked with worldwide partners, including Google, in a UK first, to embed Swift tickets within Google Pay so customers do not need a card at all. Increasingly customers are looking for a seamless transport solution and Swift is already piloting acceptance for parking, bike hire, taxis and even access to leisure centres. These solutions will be rolled out even further in the future and will help ensure that public transport is increasingly seen as the optimum customer choice.

Who we are

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) plans, develops and manages an integrated transport system for the West Midlands that is reliable, affordable and accessible for all. It is the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority.

A standard setter in the industry, our achievements are regularly recognised nationally, most importantly as the winner of ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ in 2016, 2017 and 2019 at the National Transport Awards.

Whether it’s developing and delivering new infrastructure, collaborating on future mobility projects, operating the West Midlands Metro or helping customers to keep moving, we need creative and innovative talent to join our already excellent team and help us make a real difference to residents, businesses and visitors travelling in and around the West Midlands.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

This is a remote working opportunity until a date is agreed for the WMCA workforce to return to our usual place of work at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.

Our priority is to keep all our employees safe and well during this time. We will be working remotely for the foreseeable future, and we are doing everything we can to ensure all our employees can enjoy a comfortable remote working space.
