Role title: People Operations Adviser

Location: Stafford with flexibility (currently home working)

Salary: Grade 10 £37,890 - 41,881

Contract type: Permanent

Who you’ll be

At Staffordshire County Council, we live and breathe our three values: to be ambitious, empowering, and courageous. If you join us as our new People Operations Adviser, we’ll expect you to embody these values too. So, you’ll need to be:

  • Ambitious in your goals and what you want to achieve here
  • Empowering to everyone around you, at all levels
  • Courageous in your approach, ready to think up innovative solutions

If you’re looking for a role full of responsibility and impact, it’s time to take pride – and take us forward.

What you’ll do

1. Provide invaluable advice, support, and guidance

The People Services team deliver all kinds of people-related programmes and projects across the Council. To help us achieve that, we rely on experienced people like you to provide managers with advice and guidance on employee relations issues, change management and organisational development activities.

As you receive cases, you’ll swiftly evaluate them and provide appropriate recommendations so that people-related issues get resolved in a timely, efficient way. You’ll help managers to do the same, coaching them on how to address situations quickly and sensitively. In fact, you’ll be there for managers in lots of ways: from supporting them with job design to investigating employee relations issues to providing expert advice at formal hearings.

2. Make positive change across the organisation

Here, your positive influence will be felt far beyond your immediate team. As someone who’s always looking to improve how things are done, you’ll deliver learning and development workshops on employee relations. It’s how, thanks to you, managers at all levels will have the knowledge, skills and understanding of key People policies and processes. Hands-on and proactive, you’ll gather and analyse people-related data to spot trends or areas of concern. That way, you’ll be able to suggest how and where we can make improvements that everyone will benefit from.

At the same time, you’ll keep an eye on the bigger picture and ensure that our People policies are in line with current and future case law and employment law. Whether you’re building strong relationships with Strategic People Partners, collaborating with multi-agency partners or helping to produce accurate reports for the People Leadership Team, you’ll instil confidence in everyone you work with – and be a credible voice around Staffordshire County Council.

3. Provide an accountable service

As a Council, we need to provide an accountable, responsible service that works with Staffordshire’s communities. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that happens, coaching our managers in ethical decision-making and in building trust and cohesion.

Ultimately though, we can only encourage accountability if we’re accountable ourselves. That’s why you’ll embody our values in everything you do across the organisation. You’ll be a role model of what you want to achieve and seek out fresh ways to learn and grow – something you’ll inspire others to do too.
