Job Details

The Role Reporting to the Assistant Director for Inclusion & SEND, you will be tasked with raising the standards of achievement for children across Birmingham of nursery and reception age with special educational needs and disabilities, improving their educational opportunities and wellbeing through the City’s early help offer. This key leadership role offers real autonomy and a chance to change the lives of children in the City.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Providing strategic leadership and management for the Early Years team;

• Shaping service vision and operational plans;

• Developing the structures, systems, and policies required to enable consistently high-quality service delivery;

• Working collaboratively across boundaries to ensure integrated and seamless service provision across all educational settings;

• Leading a variety of significant and innovative change and transformation projects that will continuously drive performance and improve outcomes for children and young people. Initial priorities and objectives will include the following:

• Integrating education and health SEND teams working in early years

• Developing an early intervention framework for SEND across early years

• Establishing a strengthened SEND transition / pathway into schools

• Implementing a locality-based early years specialist nursery provision for children with complex needs

 

Candidates

This key leadership role offers an opportunity to make a real difference to children through leading a service which has potential to positively impact on life-long educational outcomes.

 

We are looking for an ambitious and talented SEND professional with experience as an educational psychologist or advisory teacher, or of managing a large SEND / SEN with an interest in, or experience of, Early Years services. Furthermore, highly-effective communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills will be required for success.
