We have an exciting opportunity for a Grade 2 Teaching Assistant at Heronswood Primary and Pre School, the school is part of The Rivers CofE Academy family of schools.

What are we looking for:

  • Someone to support children and staff to ensure that all pupils’ social and emotional needs are met so they can reach their full potential.
  • Someone who can provide a calm and caring presence in the classroom or nurture room for a mixture of young people. You would assist in their day-to-day routine and teach them the value of effective, calm and controlled communication. You will support them through their challenges and help deescalate any potential behaviour through understanding and patience. You will also complete direct work with young people and their adults in areas such as positive parenting, behaviour management and family relationships.

 You will have:

  • NVQ level 4, Childcare in Education, City and Guilds Advanced Certificate in Learning Support or two years minimum experience as a nurture TA or in Children’s Social Care with evidence of INSET undertaken
  • External Safeguarding Training
  • Have a good current knowledge of the National curriculum
  • Have a good knowledge and understanding how children develop emotionally and socially, learn and how to motivate them.
  • Good understanding of supporting behaviour in a nurturing environment
  • Able to run 1:1 and group interventions as required, including children with additional needs
  • Able to run afternoon nurture class as required
  • Able to run Motional interventions
  • Able to foster positive links between home and school
  • Able to attend Children In Need Meetings and CP meetings when required.
  • Able to meet with Social workers and outside agencies when required

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting children to access school and their lessons, enabling children to have full access to educational opportunities and assist in removing barriers to their learning
  • Ensuring the pupils social and emotional needs are met
  • Providing pastoral and behaviour support to pupils
  • Assisting children to make progress in all subject areas
  • Working with pupils on an individual or group basis as required by the Pastoral Lead.
  • Aiding pupils with special needs to access all subjects of the national curriculum and encourage their independence as learners
  • Acting as a support worker for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Motivating and encouraging pupils to behave well in and around school
  • Meeting the physical and/ or hygiene needs of pupils as required
  • Undertaking safeguarding tasks which would include meeting with Social workers and outside agencies
  • Running 1-1, group interventions, Motional interventions and Nurture class as required
  • Supporting children with therapeutic play activities
  • Supporting children at lunchtime
  • Assisting in offsite visits
  • Assisting in evaluation of work undertaken and help plan future progress for children
  • Helping teachers and other Teaching Assistants to prepare materials to support teaching and learning
  • Liaising with parents/carers to support well-being and behaviours at home and to access external support
  • Developing a range of innovative approaches to effectively engage with and develop services for families, especially those who are hard to reach
