This is an INTERNAL opportunity and is available to Walsall Council employees only

Working within the operational section of Clean & Green Services, we are seeking motivated individuals who wish to develop a career in environmental services including, waste & recycling, street cleaning and grounds maintenance. 

As a front line operational supervisor you will lead a designated team (circa 6 to 12 staff),  to deliver a sustainable customer focused, high quality, cost effective environmental services for all stakeholders including residents, commercial businesses, internal council services, elected members etc. 

Operational services including but not limited to: 

Working in the Clean & Green service area the post will be assigned for undertaking one or more of the primary functions detailed below.  Generic role with post holder required to work across multiple disciplines within the service as service demands. 

  • Grounds maintenance operational services - grass maintenance, border maintenance, hedge maintenance, weed control, burials & cemetery operations
  • Waste Management - domestic refuse, recycling & garden waste, commercial waste & recycling collection services. 
  • Street cleansing operational services - litter picking, graffiti removal, fly tipping, site clearance and tidy up works, bulky item collections, mechanical sweeping operations. 

Interested candidates should possess ability / qualifications as detailed

  1. Hold an appropriate Health and Safety Qualification
  2. Full driving licence – CATEGORY C1 MINIMUM (please specify licence categories you hold on your application form) 

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The postholder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
