As Contract Manager you will be integral to the successful delivery of the Games Transport Operation for Birmingham 2022. As the main point of contact for contract management, you will provide commercial and contract management support to senior operational and corporate services colleagues throughout the lifecycle of the contracts. This will involve monitoring contract performance to ensure KPIs are adhered to and own the assessment of operational outputs and auditing process, supporting the negotiation, implementation & review of contracts, sub-contracts and contract changes, managing the invoicing and payment schedules, including moderating and applying any relevant liquidated damages, and identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks to the delivery of contracts for Transport Operations.

This is a temporary role until 31 August 2022 to support the successful delivery of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead, manage and support the development, delivery and implementation of all contracts for Transport Operations as part of the Integrated Transport Programme
  • Provide commercial and contract management support to senior operational and corporate services colleagues throughout the lifecycle of the contracts
  • Monitor contract performance to ensure KPIs are adhered to and own the assessment of operational outputs and auditing process
  • Manage the invoicing and payment schedules, including moderating and applying any relevant liquidated damages
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks to the delivery of contracts for Transport Operations

About you

We’re looking for someone with experience in managing large, complex multi-million-pound contracts within the transport industry (specifically, Bus and Traffic Management). Ideally you will have a professional qualification in contract management, but your experience is equally, if not more, important.

Experience working with large scale sporting events would be advantageous as would experience of dealing with public sector organisations.  You’ll work with legal, procurement and finance colleagues to support with the negotiation, implementation & review of contracts, sub-contracts and contract changes, therefore proven negotiation and excellent interpersonal skills, able to confidently persuade and inform key senior stakeholders, is highly desirable.

About the team

The Commonwealth Games will take place across the West Midlands in the summer of 2022. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to put the city and the region on the map. It will help deliver a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous region for us all, with new and upgraded sports facilities, affordable housing and by creating thousands of volunteer and job opportunities.

Transport for West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, has been tasked with developing a transport plan for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The plan will set out a strategic approach to planning and coordination of transport to support the Games. It sets out how spectators, athletes and Games officials and personnel will be transported come Birmingham 2022, as well as detailing how disruption to those conducting unrelated travel can be minimised.
