JOB OVERVIEW

To lead the operational delivery, performance and development of the business advisory team (advisors and account managers) across the Growth Hub core team and wider partnership, ensuring targets are being achieved, performance is of a high standard and business and client needs are being met and exceeded. To ensure that continuous evaluation and improvement is embedded in the culture of the team and that they have the skills and knowledge to excel in their dealings with clients. To see the value of delivery of new projects and adapting resources accordingly, this may include some private sector revenue generation as well as the integration of local, regional and/or national programmes and initiatives

LINE MANAGEMENT SCOPE

The Growth Hub Manager will line-manage the three advisory team leaders (Advisers and Account Managers) as well as overseeing the mentoring manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • To lead (including line-management where identified) the business advisory team, focused on the achievement of key targets and performance indicators and the development of a high performing team for the Growth Hub
  • To ensure day to day operational effectiveness, including high client satisfaction
  • To lead the development of the Growth Hub’s advisory team, in respect of knowledge, skills and technology
  • To be innovative and flexible, embedding new projects and initiatives where opportunities arise
  • To build and maintain effective relationships with key partners, particularly where they are involved in Growth Hub delivery
  • To create a culture of excellence, innovation and learning in the team and to support this across the organisation
  • To ensure best practice and clear standards are adhered to in terms of client engagement and the customer journey, (and the relevant evidence base)
  • To be a key member of the Growth Hub management team and to work effectively with colleagues to ensure that budgets are met and any key corporate objectives are reached, even when not your own
  • To represent the Growth Hub at relevant Hub internal, GBSLEP or external meetings and events, where appropriate
  • To promote the Growth Hub and its offer to relevant stakeholders, businesses, groups and forums
  • To work closely with the Growth Hub Manager (Skills, Apprenticeships and Training) to ensure that there is a seamless offer and working across the two thematic areas
  • To deputise for the Growth Hub Director (or GHM Skills, Apprenticeships & Training) where necessary
  • To undertake other such activities as may be required from time to time by GBSLEP or the Growth Hub

 

Personal Attributes required

Essential (E) or Desirable (D)

Knowledge

Track record of delivery in a similar environment (project management/economic development/business growth) (E)

Experience of building effective working relationships at a senior level with partners and stakeholders (E)

Practical knowledge of the business support environment and the needs of and issues affecting SMEs (E)

A clear understanding of the role of LEPs and their Growth Hubs in respect of delivering business support and economic development (E)

Qualifications / Memberships

Degree level or equivalent experience (E) relevant to field of work e.g. business, management, economic development etc (D)

Management or team-leading qualifications (D)

Membership of any relevant professional bodies (e.g. CIM) (D)

Experience 

Ability to set and meet targets including through a wider team (E)

Experience of developing and leading high performance teams (E)

Ability to cope with high volumes of work often to tight deadlines, including effective prioritisation (E)

High level of communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal with ability to engage, influence and promote delivery to senior stakeholders (E)

Excellent communication and networking skills, including report writing in particular (E)

Good understanding of business investment and public sector decision making processes (D)

Attitude / Behaviours

Flexibility to work outside normal working hours where required from time to time

Understanding of the importance of equality and diversity and its practical implementation
