Job Details

The Royal Spa Centre is a vibrant and well-respected cultural venue in the heart of Leamington Spa. It incorporates a busy 670-seat main auditorium, a 180-seat studio theatre, bars and social spaces, and is dedicated to presenting the best available theatre and entertainment to audiences in central Warwickshire and beyond.

We are seeking to employ a passionate apprentice to join our friendly Technical Services team, as they create and deliver outstanding technical support for visiting companies in the main auditorium and studio spaces; run cinema screenings; and assist with the day-to-day running of the department and its assets. The Royal Spa Centre has a long-standing commitment to diversity in its programming, producing, staffing and community engagement.

The successful candidate will be trained in all aspects of technical theatre, including the use of lighting, sound, stage management, AV and flying systems. This apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the dynamic environment of technical theatre, production and maintenance. This role offers the opportunity to work towards a Level 3 Certificate in Technical Theatre Support: Sound, Light and Stage; and is perfect for someone looking to start a career in the technical arts sector.

Basic understanding of performance techniques is required, as well as a basic knowledge of the operation of live performances. Full training will be provided; however, we would prefer candidates to have good written and verbal communication skills, a general knowledge and passion for the arts and experience of being part of team.

The Technical Services team are based mainly at The Royal Spa Centre, in Royal Leamington Spa, but also help facilitate events at the Town Hall and Leamington Art Gallery and Museum, that host a wide variety of community events and openings throughout the year. These three venues are owned and managed by Warwick District Council.

Desired qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s grade C (or grade 4) and above, including Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications or experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft packages including Excel and Word
  • Basic understanding of performance techniques and operation of live performance
