Job Start Date: September 2021

Based: at Dovedale Centre (but can be based at other locations within James Brindley)

This is an excellent time to join James Brindley as the Academy continues to implement a strategic vision developed by pupils, staff and other stakeholders. Join us to ‘Think Differently to inspire young people to overcome all barriers and achieve their dreams.’

James Brindley is a stand-alone Academy based in a wide variety of locations across the City of Birmingham. In the course of a school year, we educate over 3,000 young people for periods ranging from a few days in hospital to several years in one of our teaching centres. The majority of our young people have complex medical needs, and many have been out of education for a significant period of time prior to joining the Academy. We offer a full-time curriculum to young people from EYFS to KS5 and our aim is always to enable them to ‘close the gap’ and to make outstanding progress during the time they are with us.

We are looking to appoint a skilled and flexible professional to join our team as Class Teacher. Our Dovedale Centre is a Special School for pupils from Year 5 to Year 11 with Autism as their primary diagnosis. All our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and may have persistent difficulties with social interaction, social communication or

understanding emotions. Such differences can significantly impact on their access to the curriculum.

Our teachers typically teach subject specialisms to classes of approximately eight pupils in a Key Stage class with the support of a Teaching Assistant. We are now moving towards a pathways model that will see some staff deliver a number of subjects to pupils in Upper KS2 and 3 rather than subject specialists across the board.

We are looking for a qualified teacher who can carefully adapt their teaching to ensure challenge and enable progress and who is relentless in their pursuit of positive outcomes for young people. The successful candidate would have experience and ability to teach Maths to Upper KS2 and KS3. There are significant pastoral responsibilities attached to this role and all candidates should ensure they have read the job description in full before applying.

We are proud to be a UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold School.

Closing Date: 30 April 2021, 8am
