Due to team expansion, we have a permanent opportunity for an experienced Category Manager to join our well respected and award winning procurement team. We are also looking for a fixed term maternity cover for a period of up to 12 months.
The Category Manager is an exciting post that will principally support Procurement activity in a variety of service areas across Solihull Council. Initially you will be supporting our Economy and Infrastructure directorate, however the team works flexibly with opportunities to work across categories. You will play a key role in the development and delivery of the sourcing and supply strategy and assist in the management at all stages of the procurement process including undertaking user needs analysis, market research, sourcing activity, structure of tenders, market engagement, tender evaluation, negotiation, and all contractual matters.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Previous experience within a procurement environment
A robust commercial outlook with understanding of risk
Strong numeracy skills with the ability to analyse, interpret and present complex information.
Experience of stakeholder management, with strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
Knowledge of contract law, the ability to draft contracts.
Experience of Public Sector procurement is desirable.
Experience of construction and/or civil engineering is desirable.
