The Stour Vale Academy Trust is a growing trust, which has since its inception been committed to developing a truly cross-phase approach to support teaching and learning. Each individual school is empowered to continuously improve and provide high quality education to all pupils. Founded on existing successful partnership work in February 2017, Stour Vale Academy Trust is currently made up of three secondary schools and three primary schools in Halesowen, Stourbridge and West Bromwich. A fourth secondary school is due to join in the near future.

Newtown Primary School is a one form entry school which has 216 pupils on roll.  Following an inadequate Ofsted judgement in November 2017, Newtown joined Stour Vale Academy Trust as a sponsored academy in April 2020. Since then a new senior leadership team has been appointed and their teamwork and commitment to excellence has already driven significant improvement.  The whole staff team are fully engaged in Newtown’s improvement journey and it is a very exciting time to join the school.

10% of children at Newtown are identified as having a special educational need. The percentage of children known to be eligible for the pupil premium grant is 37% which is above the national figure. The percentage of children whose first language is believed not to be English is 34%.

Newtown serves an established community; many parents of current pupils also attended the school. The pupils at Newtown demonstrate an eagerness to learn.  They are very proud of their school and enjoy welcoming visitors.  Over the coming year, significant work to improve and update the 1970s building will be undertaken, thereby creating a much more pleasant and modern learning and working environment for both pupils and staff.  Pupils at Newtown benefit from an extensive outdoor learning and play environment, the potential of which the new leadership team are keen to develop over time.
