Technical Support Assistant (Air Aware)

Salary:  £20,903- £23,541 per annum (pro rata) Grade 6

37 Hours per week – Fixed term until 31st Dec 2022

Staffordshire County Council has been awarded a further round of funding from Defra’s Air Quality Grant scheme to continue the Air Aware project until the end of 2022. 

We are looking for a Project Assistant to support the Air Aware team on the preparation, evaluation and delivery of a range of behaviour change initiatives.  The project will focus on innovative sustainable and active travel projects and marketing campaigns targeting parents, pupils and staff at schools and employees in businesses in air quality management areas.  

Based in the Connectivity Support Team, you will work with the Project Officers and School Travel Advisors.  The role is key to ensuring resources, marketing material and social media messages relevant to campaigns are delivered on time to the right audience.  You will have experience of working in a busy team, working directly with external partners, collecting data, support planning of events and using various software packages.    An enthusiasm for health and active travel related activities would be beneficial.  

Key outcomes of the Air Quality Scheme are –

  • Business Engagement - Increase physical activity and improve health through walking and cycling initiatives for businesses Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA’s)
  • School Engagement – Increase active travel on the school journey through intensive school engagement and travel planning in AQMA’s
  • Increase awareness of how to improve air quality through behaviour change programmes
  • Raise the profile of electric vehicles, and support businesses to access grants to facilitate installation of charging points
  • Widen the Air Aware campaign to the full county

 

 

The success of the project relies on the team having excellent communication skills and being able to adapt to using a variety of media.  The communications element of the first phase of the Air Aware project (2018-2020) proved successful through using social media to reach wider audiences.  The Project Assistant will be required to continue this good work, bring new ideas and experience in project delivery.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to support the project team to deliver these objectives, and provide administrative support to school active travel, Bikeability and other sustainable travel programmes.    The position has the flexibility to not only work in office and home working environments but will support the team at events around the county.  The exciting projects that the Connectivity Team deliver engage directly with communities, schools and businesses, you will be key to the success of this and will need to be an organised and motivated individual.
