About the Role

Skilts School is a special school for up to 90 boys between the ages of 5 and 13 with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some of the children also have diagnoses of ASD and ADHD and all travel from the Birmingham area to attend our day provision. The school will relocate to a brand new, purpose built, building in the east of Birmingham at B33 9QY for September 2021 and will be renamed to Lea Hall Academy.

All of our pupils have an Education Health and Care Plan which indicates the key target areas of child development.

Teachers are supported by experienced teaching assistants to ensure that our children make expected progress against those targets.

We are looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic, and talented teacher who is aspiring to middle leadership or already in a middle leadership position. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in teaching, preferably both the primary and secondary phase, and have secure behaviour management strategies. The school will become an

Academy with Forward Education Trust later in 2021.

We are seeking a candidate who is ready for the next challenge in their career, enjoys working with others to share this journey of improvement and is keen to develop their practice in this specialist area of education.

The ideal candidate will have some experience of supporting and teaching pupils with SEMH needs and will be able to work collaboratively with support staff and senior leaders in order to plan and deliver high quality educational provision for our young people. They will be empathetic to the complex needs of our pupils and also resilient to challenge; understanding that at times our pupils can display challenging behaviours which are a result of their special needs.

Skilts School is committed to providing continuous professional development for all staff. We offer a supportive, motivating and engaging working environment.
