Permanent contract

Prior to the 2020 Covid lockdown, the Assembly Rooms in Tamworth underwent a multi-million-pound project to totally transform the 130-year-old building. The refurbishment will give Tamworth a new modern theatre as well as a new kitchen with state-of-the-art equipment, café and event space for community/corporate hire. We are looking for a Catering Officer to oversee the catering for the whole venue, including bars, and other Council owned venues including Tamworth Castle and outdoor catering for events.

We are looking for an experienced chef or catering officer with a proven record of success in scratch cooking, menu development, training, and managing & motivating staff. This is an exciting opportunity where you will have creative autonomy. You must have a passion for fresh food and be able to take on a new challenge. The Catering Officer will be responsible for the day to day running of the catering operation, both food and beverage.

The successful candidate will be hands on working alongside a team to develop and produce a contemporary range of hot & cold dishes for lunch service comprising meat & fish, special of the day, vegetarian and light bites and bakery items.

With a wide-ranging theatrical programme and diverse clientele, the food style will need to be tailored to match the shows and audience profile. You will also need an understanding of corporate hospitality & special events and be able to create new exciting dishes with fresh ingredients. You will manage the team in a calm and effective manner, offering support and training to junior staff. You will have responsibility for menu standards, food costs and ordering. This will include due diligence and procedures that are followed on site.

As a catering officer you will have a proven background in quick service restaurants or forward-thinking business contracts. You will be an excellent communicator, building effective and constructive relationships and be happy to work as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Chef and managing teams
  • A proven working knowledge of modern cookery
  • A flair for cooking with fresh ingredients
  • The ability to cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner to set deadlines
  • Experience of high street retail food trends
  • Good interpersonal skills with both kitchen, front of house staff and management
  • A positive approach to menu planning and development of the catering service
  • Word, Excel and Outlook IT skills to basic level
  • Food hygiene certificate
  • Menu costing experience
  • The ability to spot commercial opportunities and show how they can be achieved
  • The confidence to develop and manage relationships with internal and external customers
  • An understanding of providing first class customer service, setting a personal example at every opportunity
