Reporting to the Assistant Director for Inclusion and SEND, this key strategic leadership role offers real autonomy and a chance to change the lives of children for the better. With experience of working at a strategic level, you will have previously been involved in transformation work at a senior level and have successful outcomes directly linked to your role. You must have experience of working in a complex and challenging organisation and with a wide range of stakeholders.


If appointed, your task will be to raise the standards of achievement for children and young people in Birmingham through leading the provision of advisory support services for autism. This will involve: 



  • Providing strategic leadership and management for all relevant advisory support services

  • Shaping service vision and operational plans

  • Developing the structures, systems, and policies required to enable consistently high-quality service delivery

  • Working collaboratively across boundaries to ensure integrated and seamless service provision across all educational settings

  • Leading a variety of significant and innovative change and transformation projects that will continuously drive performance and improve outcomes for children and young people. 


Specific priorities and objectives will include: 



  • Allocating enhanced funding for autism to maximise positive impact

  • Ensuring consistent high-quality service delivery

  • Establishing relationships with school leaders and supporting them and their staff in developing and maintaining inclusive provision

  • Tracking and evidencing the impact of additional and specialist resource

  • Leading innovative programmes that support schools, families and young people


This key leadership role offers an opportunity to make a real difference to children through leading a service which has potential to positively impact on life-long educational outcomes. 


We are looking for an ambitious and talented SEND professional with experience of working at a strategic level and involvement in transformation work at a senior level, with successful outcomes directly linked to your work. You must have experience of working in a complex and challenging organisation and with a wide range of stakeholders along with strategic level experience of managing and/or delivering advisory support services (eg as an educational psychologist, teacher, autism specialist / practitioner, or manager of advisory support services). 


In addition, highly-effective communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills will be required for success.
