Trading Standards & Environmental Compliance Team

Fixed Term – 2 years

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join our busy professional Trading Standards and Environmental Compliance team.

You will be joining us, not only at an exciting time for the development of this Service but also at an exciting time for the Borough, as it looks forward to hosting events at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and to the arrival of HS2.

As a Senior Trading Standards Officer, we are offering a unique opportunity to work across our socially and economically diverse Borough, delivering the range of regulatory duties through the full spectrum of Trading Standards issues. In addition, as Birmingham Airport is in our Borough the role will include Safety at Ports and Borders work.

To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant Trading Standards qualification and have experience in providing advice and guidance on regulatory and enforcement issues as well as proven knowledge of legal processes and effective evidence gathering.

In return we offer you the opportunity to join our friendly and highly motivated team and contribute in a very real way to the wellbeing of our residents.  We also offer

  • Generous leave entitlement (which rises with continuing service), including the potential for flexi leave up to 24 days per year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to 10 additional days annual leave per year.
  • Family and Carer friendly policies.
  • Attractive staff discounts and benefits.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service.
  • A career average pension scheme.

We are currently implementing our Smarter Ways of Working as we recognise that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go.  Our aim is to balance the needs of our employees with service delivery and, for the majority of our roles, to enable our people to be able to work remotely wherever possible.  This role however will require you to be able travel around the Borough.
