The council’s passenger transport team manage the public and school transport networks across the County, including contracted public bus services, mainstream, and special educational needs transport. Within passenger transport the transport support team are focussed on supporting operational delivery through a range of administrative functions including finance, pass issue, and contract management. Over 200 contracts are held with external transport suppliers covering a diverse range of service provision. The team are based at the councils head office at Plough Lane, Hereford, and due to the Covid-19 pandemic also operate home working, with full equipment and support provided.
We are currently recruiting for the role of Transport Compliance Assistant to work within the transport support team. The role is focussed on external contract management activities such as monitoring the operation of public bus and school transport routes, checking of driver and vehicle licencing, and compliance with legislation, council policy, and contractual terms and conditions. The role also supports internal administrative functions particularly administration of the English National Concessionary Travel scheme, a scheme providing free bus passes to entitled passengers.
The successful applicant will be required to be flexible in their approach to working as the role will involve traveling extensively around the County to carry out monitoring activities, and to assist with updating public transport publicity at road side displays. This could involve early starts and late finishes and occasionally requires limited working at weekends. The majority of time will be spent working to normal office hours with some days being office or home based. A full driving licence is essential with access to a pool car being provided when necessary.
Experience of working in passenger transport administration or a monitoring/compliance role, and some knowledge of local bus services is desirable but not essential, full training will be provided.
