Tamworth is a historic market town that has seen considerable growth over the last 40 years to make it one of the largest towns in the West Midlands. With great access to the countryside and excellent road and rail links it is a popular place to live, work and visit.

We have ambitious plans to revitalise and rejuvenate the Town Centre through a Masterplan-led mixed use development and strive to provide a leading example of how Town Centres can be regenerated to assist in the economic, social and environmental recovery of the Country.

Alongside this, our key priorities centre around heritage assets, including Tamworth Castle and how they can be sensitively developed to ensure their preservation, whilst capitalising on their historic value; and the delivery of a broad spectrum of development, including new homes, leisure and employment opportunities that are energy efficient,  environmentally friendly and are supported by the necessary infrastructure.

We understand that we are entering into a different world, which presents new challenges and opportunities – can you help us rise to the challenge and deliver our ambitious plans?

In return we can offer you the opportunity to expand your skills through working as part of a close-knit, supportive team of enthusiastic planners who are committed to delivering high quality, sustainable development, and who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries!

You will predominately be responsible for a caseload of more minor applications, but will also have the opportunity to work alongside more experienced Officers on complex, strategic schemes and projects. This role will provide you with the opportunity to apply and develop your skills and experience across a range of development types, in a Borough in which sustainable regeneration is at the fore. The role will also enable you to work in a flexible and agile way.

As a Specialist within the Development Management Community of Practice, you should be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) within a Planning or related discipline and either be a member of, or working towards membership of the RTPI.  You will ideally have previous experience in Development Management with the ability to lead on delivering developments and providing key Development Management advice. You will display a positive approach to problem solving and will be committed to delivering high quality developments whilst ensuring excellent customer service is maintained at all times.

If you are passionate about tackling the challenges that lie ahead, we would love to hear from you!

The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work in the UK check, and medical clearance.

For an informal chat about the role please contact Anna Miller, Assistant Director Growth and Regeneration Anna-Miller@tamworth.gov.uk.

Late applications and/or CVs will not be accepted.  Agencies need not apply. We welcome applications from all sectors of the community. This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
