Salary:  £19,698 per annum (pro rata)

13.5 Hours per week

HMPYOI Werrington is a male, juvenile / young offender Prison. Staffed by a team of 1 Library assistant led by the Library Supervisor. The Library is a well-used and valued resource within the Prison and is open daily Wednesday to Saturday. This 13.5 hour, grade 5 post (salary £19,698 per annum, pro rata) usually operates on Thursdays and Fridays am & pm and every other Saturday am.

The Library is a branch of Staffordshire County Council Prison Library Service and the on-site staff work closely with Library staff in the other SCC Prison Libraries in the County, as well as with SCC PLS management and on-site Prison and Partner Staff and Management.

This role requires a positive and proactive person with great customer service skills and a love of reading. We are looking for a confident person with integrity, a strong work ethic and effective and positive communication skills. This role will suit someone who enjoys a challenge and embraces change, who is a natural leader and team player. This is an opportunity to make a difference; to demonstrate a calm and can-do attitude to sustain and develop the Library space, team and service. And a chance to find a rewarding vocation, helping our valued Library users and becoming a part of a community of partners in Werrington Prison.

Evening shifts may be introduced in the future, if the Prison regime changes and there is a need, so applicants should consider this. Also the role does require some cover of colleagues at other times / days outside the set core-shifts of this post and so would suit someone with the availability and flexibility to accommodate this.
