The service reflects and responds to the changing needs of children and their families.  It works to enable a reflective and flexible approach, with a strong Early Help offer and a real focus on Relationship Based Practice and Signs of Safety, which focuses on intervention and keeping families together.

Coventry Children’s Services has a specialist Children Disability Team (CDT) which provides support to children and young people up to the age of 18 who have a lifelong learning/physical disability. 

The CDT is passionate about working with children, families and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for vulnerable children.  The team undertake children and family assessments and works with children in need, children subject to child protection plans and looked after children.  A multi-disciplinary approach is modelled in the team in partnership with both universal and mainstream services to support children, young people and their families.

What is the job role?

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Children with Disabilities Team at Coventry City Council, as a Senior Practitioner,  working 37 hours a week.

CDT is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of social work practitioners, family support workers and an occupational therapist. We provide support to children and young people up to the age of 18 who have a lifelong learning/physical disability  We are passionate about working with children, families and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for vulnerable children. The team undertakes children and family assessments and works with children in need, children subject to child protection plans and looked after children.  
  
Roles within CDT offer child centred and dynamic practitioners the opportunity to develop their existing knowledge, skills and experience. Previous experience of working with children and young people who have disabilities is not required as we will provide a high level of support, including learning and development opportunities.

We are looking for a Senior Practitioner who really want to make a difference to families lives, and who wants to work in an environment where social work can really flourish, where caseloads are manageable and where support and development is key. We particularly welcome applications from those from underrepresented backgrounds and all walks of life to give our diverse city the greatest level of support it deserves.

You will work closely with professionals from a range of agencies including health, education, police and youth offending services in order to improve lived experiences for Children and their families.

We want you to bring your ideas and suggestions to drive our journey of improvement and put Coventry on the map for delivering more positive outcomes. You’ll be joining a great team of people who are passionate about the city, its people and its exciting prospects.

You will be the allocated worker for a manageable number of children who have complex needs, whilst also providing support to the management function of the team. You will be helping us deliver a strategy that puts children, young people and families, at the beginning, middle and end of everything we do, with all the support and resources you need to do it.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
 

Who are we looking for?

You will need to have a recognised professional Social Work qualification (MA/BA/BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work or CQSW) and be registered with Social Work England and with substantial experience of achieving good outcomes for children, including those subject to child protection plans, looked after children and Court work.
