    The post holder will be responsible for building, supporting and managing our new Practice Development Service. This service will consist of 3 Advanced Practitioners to support our new model of practice development. Practice Development is all about delivering good and outstanding services through high quality practice to children and families. It supports staff to become good and outstanding practitioners, through the use of Practice Framework. Our aim is that each practitioner should be able to know what good reflective intervention looks like and to ensure that all new and inexperienced practitioners gain the knowledge, experience and skills that they need to be a good and outstanding practitioner using the Practice Framework in their daily practice.

    The service manager will be responsible for the following:

    • To lead and manage the Practice Development Service and ensure that good quality practice and ongoing practice development is embedded and sustained throughout the very heart of all our services and becomes business as usual within the Trust.
    • To support a move towards the Trust becoming a learning organization with high quality practice for the children and families that we work with.
    • Exercise a leadership and challenge function with social work practitioners and managers across Sandwell Children’s Trust and partner agencies.
    • Lead manage and motivate team of staff to deliver high quality and effective services.
    • Lead responsibility for operational management of the full range of services within the specific service area.
    • To particularly ensure that the practice improvement elements of service delivery of children receiving services are of a consistently high standard.
    • To ensure that managers and workers within the service area comply with practice standards, policy and all other procedures which apply to the Service Area.
    • To ensure that the voice of service users is heard effectively and translated into practice, policy and service review and development.
    • To take a lead role in developing and implementing Business and Service Improvement plans within Sandwell Children’s Trust.
    • To participate in the operation of the Trust’s Appraisal Scheme.
    • A valid DBS and SWE registration.
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of our Practice Framework and model, and a proven track record of supporting continuous improvement in service delivery.
    • Experience in managing multiple projects, delivering training, and coordinating plans and service for an improving organisation.
    • Experience in evaluating practice and evaluative report writing which supports a learning culture.
    • Writing and delivering training and providing reports for a variety of audiences.
    • Understanding of the main issues relating to, and factors impacting on, safeguarding children and young people from abuse or exploitation.
    • Understanding of the range of procedural and legislative interventions for safeguarding children. Experience in Partnership and inter-agency working with both statutory and voluntary sector agencies.
    • Experiences/knowledge in auditing methodologies and experience of external scrutiny such as Ofsted and Peer reviews.
