Highways Engineer - Sustainable Development

Salary:  £32,234- £36,922 per annum

37 Hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Highways and Built County team at Staffordshire County Council. This role is a key member of the Council’s client side, helping to deliver the Council’s strategic outcomes.

Our aim is to improve transport infrastructure across the County, developing and delivering new infrastructure to time and budget, to include delivery of all developer-funded schemes, and support to the economic regeneration capital programme through the Infrastructure Partnership we have with Amey our term service provider.

To help support this key area of work, we are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and forward thinking Engineer to join a small Highway commissioning team responsible for ensuring the delivery of the annual capital programme of highways schemes. You will be responsible for a wide variety of schemes from the point of commissioning through to completion including developing briefs, costing, procurement, ordering, site contract monitoring, and finance for the delivery of the capital highway projects most of which are private developer funded.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has excellent communication and negotiation skills, to work closely with a range of stakeholders that includes Elected Members, residents, colleagues, designers, developers, external authorities, contractors, District and Borough Councils, landowners and utilities on a day-to-day basis to ensure delivery of the annual programme of works whilst ensuring Best Value is provided. This is an ideal opportunity to make an important contribution to improve service delivery, be innovative and find new ways of working within the Infrastructure + partnership.

Your personal style and approach should be positive, proactive and engaging to people at all levels. You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to quickly build credible relationships within Infrastructure+ and with our key stakeholders.

The role will include a mix of office and site work and a driving licence and car are essential to this post
