Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

• Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
• Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
• Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
• Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

We are currently looking for an inspirational leader to join our Senior Management team as Head of Service for Localities and Social Care Operations.

This is a challenging and influential role in which you will hold lead responsibility for Adult Social Care to ensure the statutory responsibilities of the local authority for the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and other legislative functions and accountabilities are appropriately managed including joint responsibilities with Health partners. 

You will provide leadership, management and professional advice on all aspects of adult social care in the delivery of high quality support to improve outcomes for the people of Coventry and lead specific strategic areas of activity across Adult Social Care, specifically for ongoing care and support across Adults and Older People, end of life care, stroke and locality working.

You will provide leadership and management of internally provided services for Adults including discharging responsibilities in respect of compliance with Care Quality Commission standards and regulation. 

This is an incredibly important and exciting time for health and care nationally, and you will ensure Coventry is at the fore, driving transformation and pushing us beyond the ideas of yesterday to turn aspiration in to reality.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Highly visible and demanding, this senior leadership role would suit a social work professional with substantial experience of leading service delivery in adult social care within a large and complex organisation.

If you’re an exceptional leader with a track record of enhancing delivery of effective and sustainable, integrated services then we’d love to hear from you.

You should have a track-record of bringing about tangible organisational benefits through both exploiting new ways of working and winning commitment to them. Significant understanding of the national agenda influencing local government, the NHS and the wider public, voluntary and private sector is essential.

While clearly rewarding, the work can be challenging and pressurised at times, with conflicting priorities. You will need experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams through organisational and cultural change and delivering outcomes that require collaborative approaches, both within the organisation and with external partners.

Experience of building productive partnerships with key stakeholders is essential, as is knowledge of financial and budgetary management. You will, of course, be an exceptional communicator, able to work effectively in a political environment.
