Bromley Hills Primary School is a successful LA controlled school. Founded in 1962, we are a one-and-a-half form entry school with 310 children on role and a governor led nursery on site. The education and welfare of the children is in the hands of a caring, friendly, hardworking and experienced team of teaching and non-teaching staff, with a supportive board of governors, who are committed to raising standards and giving our young learners the best possible start.
We are seeking to appoint two co-opted Governors to our Governing Board. We are looking for volunteers with time, passion and interest in education and a willingness to support and challenge our school to drive school improvement. Our governors come from a range of different backgrounds and you don’t need any particular skill sets or knowledge to join us, but experience in finance, legal, health and safety, HR, premises management, safeguarding and/or education would be advantageous.
Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to young people and give something back to your local community. As a governor, you will also gain board level experience and develop lots of skills that will boost your own professional development.
Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute.
Training is available for all governors and those new to being a governor are expected to attend induction training. All of our governors are expected to follow the Code of Conduct.
The time commitment is anticipated to equate to approximately 1 day per half term, including both school time and evening engagements, but this may vary with the cycle of the school year. The hours will likely be split into several activities across the period.
For more information or an informal discussion about the role, please contact our Chair of Governors, Colin Molloy, via the school office on 01384 816940 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children; therefore the post is subject to medical clearance and an enhanced DBS check and two suitable references (if you have previously been a governor at another school, you should include their details as a reference).
