The Public Health Function is an important contributor to this vision, responsible for developing the Council into a ‘Public Health Engine’, which actively promotes population good health and enables all Birmingham citizens to make healthier choices. This will be achieved through the continual championing of the health and wellbeing of all people across the city, but especially the most vulnerable. The delivery of an effective intelligence-led approach based on a set of agreed principles will require significant cultural and structural change – where the citizen is at the heart of what we do and each and every member of the Public Health workforce willingly and actively takes responsibility for their actions.

 

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division in a Public Health Programme Support Officer role. This is a rare opportunity for a skilled individual to join Public Health within the largest Local Authority in the country and lead work that contributes to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives.

 

This role is designed for information analysts. The role is full time and the postholder will report to the Programme Senior Officer (Knowledge). Key expectations and deliverables are to carry out in-depth data analysis. The post holder will be familiar with the relevant Public Health data sets and also have a good level of experience in the use of analysis tools.

This full-time permanent position will be within the Knowledge, Evidence and Governance Team. This team leads on providing to the wider Public Health Team, Other departments within the Council and Stakeholders with high quality Public Health Intelligence.

This full-time role will be based within the Knowledge theme of the Knowledge, Evidence and Governance Team of Public Health

 

 

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Supporting Public Health activity through developing relevant subject matter expertise and technical skills
  • Identifying and using suitable sources of data and carrying out data analysis to help establish health needs
  • Engaging with citizens and other stakeholders to understand the local context of and feasibility of interventions
  • Communicating and presenting innovative solutions and best practice for health and wellbeing issues to stakeholders and citizens
  • Supporting work on Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, equality impact assessments as required
  • Working flexibly and adapting to business needs and priorities in a manner that supports a positive culture of change.
  • Contributing to continuous improvements in performance, cost and quality to ensure KPIs, key outcomes and targets are achieved in line with Council and partner priorities, statutory and community requirements
  • Supporting the development of opportunities for collaboration across the Council and with external stakeholders
