We are seeking a Major Projects Engineer with experience of working in a highways environment, to lead and manage some of our larger multi-disciplinary projects within the Borough.

This is an incredibly interesting and varied role, where you will have the opportunity to engage and influence partners, contractors and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes across a range of high profile, borough wide enhancement schemes…. and there’s plenty going on!

Working collaboratively with our Project Managers in UK Central you will be a key person in delivering the growth aspirations of our wider programme.  You will also work closely with TfWM, WMCA, Birmingham Airport, Jaguar Land Rover and the National Exhibition Centre.   We handle the range of work you would expect of an economically prosperous Met Authority with key highways projects related to HS2 and Highways England on our doorstep.

We are working hard to do what is needed to welcome the arrival of HS2 (with the first station outside London arriving here in 2026). Ensuring we are maintaining our historic and natural landscape, and delivering the design quality, community benefits and green and blue infrastructure that only the best development in the right locations can, is all part of the job.

We are striving for highway services that are well resourced, fit for the future and geared up for delivery. We are after the brightest and best talent; commercially minded and emotionally intelligent.  Your understanding of technical detail is important, but equally so is your ability to engage with our partners and stakeholders.  You’re going to need to be engaging and confident, bringing a ‘can do’ approach to your team to help us rise to the challenge.

You will also have a degree or HND/ HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject or the ability to demonstrate through extended experience, the necessary knowledge to carry out the full range of duties

In return we can offer

  • Generous leave entitlement (which rises with continuous service) including the potential for flexi leave up to 24 days per year. The opportunity to buy up to 10 additional days’ annual leave per year.
  • Family and Carer friendly policies.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service
  • Attractive staff discounts and benefits including access to the Local Government Pension Scheme

To apply please follow the link below.  If you have a specific question or require further information please contact Paresh Shingadia, Major Projects and Programmes Lead at or on 0121 704 8051.

Closing date: 13th June 2021
