Benefits Take-Up Worker

Full-time post 36.25 hours p.w.

Starting salary:  £25,481 per annum - plus, up to 3% employer’s contribution to pension.

Previous applicants need not reapply.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Benefits Take-Up worker to work on an exciting new project in partnership with Act on Energy and Marches Energy Agency.

Warmer Homes West Midlands is an ambitious partnership programme to provide a universal energy advice service for the fuel poor across the seven urban local authority areas in the West Midlands Combined Authority area.  The aim is to reduce fuel poverty and improve the health and wellbeing of people with pre-existing cold and damp related medical conditions.  Income maximisation is one of the key delivery strands for this project and referrals for benefits advice will be made to WWRAS by a team of community outreach workers, rooted in the communities where the project operates.

The project is currently funded until November 2022 (dependent on targets being met).  The post is a permanent appointment as the expectation is that the post holder will be retained, subject to additional funding being secured beyond this date.

Advice will be delivered by telephone; digitally; through case work, and on home visits and community events, where it is safe to do so.  The work will involve:

  • Calculating benefit entitlement for clients upon referral from Energy Advisors
  • Assisting clients to complete benefit claims and assisting them to challenge adverse decisions.
  • Carrying out promotional activities relating to the project in order to effectively increase the take-up of benefits across the project area.

Warwickshire Welfare Rights Advice Service has an unrivalled reputation in the field of social security in the county of Warwickshire and surrounding areas.  WWRAS has raised in excess of £74 million in unclaimed benefits for clients since being established.  The post is home based but will involve visiting clients in various locations across the West Midlands Combined Authority area.
