We are currently seeking to appoint a Swimming Instructor to join the highly professional staff team at Blackfriars Academy to start as soon as possible. You will work under the direction and instruction of the Headteacher taking responsibility for the development of swimming and water safety throughout the school through the provision of lessons, swimming clubs and competitions.


You will plan and teach swimming lessons, assessing progress made using externally accredited badge systems as appropriate or an assessment system that meets the needs of our students. You will teach inside the pool and at poolside as required. You will co-ordinate dressing and other independence programmes connected with swimming and the mode of transfer of children into the pool following consultation with physiotherapists and other staff. You will also be responsible for the management of the pool, the equipment connected with the pool, and maintain an overview of all aspects of safety and maintenance.


Applicants must:


• Have experience of delivering coaching lessons to young people
• Hold a swimming qualification e.g. SEQ Level 2
• Hold good numeracy and literacy skills.
• Have a good understanding of relevant swimming coaching programme and relevant accreditation process.
• Have knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
• Ability to work constructively as part of a team and with volunteers and other professionals
• Have an interest in working in a very special environment where the needs of our precious children are always the priority


Blackfriars Academy is a generic 11-19 academy specialising in providing an outstanding education for students with a vast range of needs. The swimming pool is integral to the support that we provide for students with physical disabilities and fundamental to ensuring that students are prepared for adulthood by being safe in water. The vast majority of our student’s love being in our pool and so the role will be one filled with joy and hard work!
