Commercial Energy Delivery Manager
Do you want to be part of a team leading on the de-carbonisation of the West Midlands? Do you want to create something great, with huge impact right from the start? Do you enjoy having the autonomy to create your own work programme, giving you the freedom to achieve goals and make a real difference to people’s lives?
We are looking for a Commercial Energy Delivery Manager to help us to secure carbon savings from the decarbonisation of commercial premises across the West Midlands as set out in the #WM2041 Five Year Plan. Our aim is to make the West Midlands fairer, greener and healthier and this includes delivering the climate change strategy where we are working across a wide range of activity to take the region to net zero carbon emissions by 2041. As our commercial energy subject matter expert, you will develop a clear plan for engaging and supporting West Midland based businesses to decarbonise, with a focus on near-site or onsite renewable energy generation, informed by establishing and managing a Commercial Green Energy Taskforce.
This role will be based within the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Energy Capital Team – the team tasked with delivering the Regional Energy Strategy and securing the powers and resources necessary to deliver it effectively - and will work across directorates and departments to deliver the net zero transition.
This role is being offered on a two-year fixed term contract.
We’re looking for someone who really does want to make a difference to climate change and carbon reduction. You’ll need to have operational experience in energy or facilities management, together with experience of the commercial energy development process, including business / investment case development and commercial partnerships.
The role will involve working with Distributed Network Operators (Gas and Electricity systems) to negotiate cost-effective and risk mitigated grid connections, working with contractors and supporting local authorities to develop policies which facilitate renewable energy development, and so excellent interpersonal, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, and experience of working across all levels of an organisation, are needed.
You’ll enjoy working with and analysing data and be comfortable using data to inform decisions. You’ll understand legislation and compliance requirements for corporate energy management e.g. ESOS, ISO 14001 and have experience in full-energy surveys and feasibility studies for energy management, energy efficiency interventions and renewable energy technology deployment.
A ‘carbon reduction trailblazer’, you’ll be someone who wants to leave a lasting legacy in our region and someone who wants to make a difference to the future of our planet.
