Our aim is to make the West Midlands fairer, greener and healthier and this includes delivering the climate change strategy where we are working across a wide range of activity to take the region to net zero carbon emissions by 2041. As Energy Research Analyst and Partnership Coordinator, you will support the Energy Capital partnership to collaborate effectively to achieve shared goals. This involves gathering intelligence about what partners are working on, identifying synergies and opportunities for increased impact, sharing information and analysis about the region to target and support programmes of work and communicating the great work of the partnership.

This role will be an integral part of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Energy Capital Team, who are working alongside colleagues from across the organisation to deliver the net zero transition.

As the Energy Research Analyst and Partnership Coordinator, you will be responsible for enabling networking and information sharing to build a detailed picture of energy and net zero activities across the West Midlands Energy Capital partnership. This will involve building relationships with Energy Capital Partnership Board members, raising the profile of Energy Capital with key influencers and stakeholders and being an internal and external advocate and champion of the Energy Capital partnership.

This role is being offered on a two-year fixed term contract.

About you

We’re looking for someone who really does want to make a difference to climate change and carbon reduction. Someone who is as passionate about the West Midlands as we are. We’d like you to have a degree level qualification in a relevant subject, with evidence of strong research capability, ideally with experience working within the energy sector or relevant industry.

You’ll have excellent analytical skills, able to review information and determining the best approach, and the interpersonal skills needed to build relationships with a range of stakeholders and to work effectively as part of a fast-paced, highly technical team. A ‘carbon reduction trailblazer’, you’ll be someone who wants to leave a lasting legacy in our region and someone who wants to make a difference to the future of our planet.

About the team

Established by the Mayor of the West Midlands to explore new models of regional energy governance and delivery, Energy Capital is the smart energy innovation partnership for the West Midlands.  By responding to the needs of our vibrant manufacturing economy and diverse local markets, we aim to make the West Midlands one of the most attractive locations to develop and deliver innovative clean energy systems. Working with local authorities, regulators, energy companies and national government, the Energy Capital Team is responsible for the delivery of the Regional Energy Strategy and securing the investment and powers necessary to enable this. Our partnership, with its secretariat based within the Combined Authority, combines energy infrastructure providers, ambitious local authorities, world-leading academic expertise and innovation support, with diverse businesses and leading energy entrepreneurs. Energy Capital provides a single point of contact for government, regulators, funders, investors and partners across the West Midlands geography.

Throughout lockdown, most of us have been working remotely and as we begin to look forward to leading a more normal life, we’re planning a new approach to the way we use our office space. We want to develop a flexible approach to the workplace which retains some of the benefits of working from home. This hybrid approach will mean most of us working from home some of the time, blending the best of home and office working.
