The Birmingham Community Library Service is being transformed with a focus on customer needs, new services are being developed alongside reading support, book lending, information services, access to IT and community activities. The hours will need to be worked on a rota basis and Saturday working is required. You will assist the Library Manager and other senior staff in the provision of an effective modern library service, including book lending, IT services and a range of other community services.
Key duties of the advertised posts include assisting customers and dealing with routine enquiries face to-face and on the telephone, enrolling new borrowers, helping customers access IT services, dealing with partner organisations, issuing and discharging books on a computerised system, supporting and delivering activities for children and adults. Other duties may include undertaking general clerical duties, minor book repairs, dealing with monies, taking fines, verifying documents for benefits claimants.
Previous experience of a customer facing role, using IT in a work environment, and an ability to categorise and sort information are key to the position.

All posts are 6 month fixed term contracts and are available to BCC employees as secondments.
These contracts may be extended subject to Workforce Review Board approval. All staff can apply for positions of any grade for which they believe they meet the essential criteria as defined on the Person Specification for the role.
The offer of a post is subject to management approval and business need. Please note that successful candidates in some instances will also be required to work at neighbouring libraries.
