Job Details

To support with the successful delivery of the Commonwealth Games Transport Operations, Transport for West Midlands is looking for a Workforce Manager to join its team. This role is critical to the successful selection and deployment of a ‘Games Time’ workforce for the Regional and Spectator Transport Operation (RASTO) on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM). The post holder will be responsible for the planning, design and delivery of workforce planning and operations, including supporting the training and workforce deployment and will support post-Games reconciliation.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced workforce manager to support the successful delivery of Transport operations for Birmingham 2022. The post holder will also work closely with WMCA HR Team to manage all aspects of people management, review and update HR policies and contractual obligations in readiness for implementation and management of the team before, during and immediately post-operations.

As our Workforce Manager, you will design and deliver an operational workforce resource plan, to ensure diverse resource requirements are in place for operational/Games delivery. This will include the deployment of internal employees, contractors and volunteers for the RaSTO team. In liaison with the Resourcing Partner, you will oversee the recruitment and selection activity, on-boarding and induction training of Games time staff with RaSTO alongside WMCA HR colleagues.

This role is being offered on a fixed term contract basis until 31 August 2022.

About you

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience of managing and deploying large staffing resources in complex operations environments. You’ll have a minimum level 4 qualification in a HR/OD related subject or equivalent experience. Membership of a relevant HR/OD professional body is desired, but realty not essential.

Solid knowledge and practical understanding of organisational HR practices that are appropriate to this role and workforce, and experience of working with public sector or large, complex organisations would be great.

About the team

The Commonwealth Games will take place across the West Midlands in the summer of 2022. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to put the city and the region on the map. It will help deliver a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous region for us all, with new and upgraded sports facilities, affordable housing and by creating thousands of volunteer and job opportunities.

Transport for West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, has been tasked with developing a transport plan for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The plan will set out a strategic approach to planning and coordination of transport to support the Games. It sets out how spectators, athletes and Games officials and personnel will be transported come Birmingham 2022, as well as detailing how disruption to those conducting unrelated travel can be minimised.
