Job Details

Sandwell has a £6.2bn economy which is growing faster than the UK average. The council is driving forward and seizing this opportunity with new investments in infrastructure, housing and public services, encouraging an appetite for change in local business and residents. This requires new ways of working, and we are investing and delivering differently, bringing opportunities to local residents, businesses and towns through HS2, the Commonwealth Games, the Metro Extension and more.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Regeneration & Growth will lead on strategic regeneration opportunities as well as supporting our work with the Combined Authority and the Black Country Partnership. With a focus on both physical regeneration and the skills agenda, the role will work with partners, Elected Members, residents and local schools to identify the priorities for each of our six unique towns leading to increased employment and inclusive growth opportunities.

We are looking for an exceptional leader who shares our Vision 2030 and who is passionate about creating opportunities for the unique towns and people that make up Sandwell. Everything we do is about shaping a borough where people are proud of their local area, have well paid jobs, access to quality housing, vibrant town centres and new skills.

You will have significant senior management experience in a local authority or related setting and a track record in successfully managing and delivering complex change and improvement programmes. You will also need to have managed a range of services and multi-disciplinary teams relevant to the portfolio, but also be comfortable operating at a strategic level to deliver on our corporate priorities as part the leadership team.

Of greatest importance is a passion for creating opportunities for the communities and people that make up Sandwell. Everything we do is about shaping a borough where people are proud of their local area, have well paid jobs, access to quality housing, vibrant town centres and new skills.

The new investments coming into Sandwell represent an exciting, important opportunity to take us forward and ensure local residents and businesses benefit. This role offers you the opportunity to make your mark at the top table in the council and contribute to the inclusive economy agenda across the West Midlands.
