Solihull Community Housing is seeking an enthusiastic person to join our busy Housing Options Team to meet the requirements of the Homelessness Reduction Act. We are recruiting to one part time permanent post, to deliver our services.

This role requires the post holder to provide effective homelessness & housing advice, and assistance to prevent and resolve the homelessness of customers that approach our service. You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, have an ability to work flexibly due to competing demands and operate in a coordinated manner with other team members to ensure successful outcomes. Finding the right person is critical to our future success.

We are looking for someone who is able to be empathetic and respond to sensitive issues effectively, but who is firm when necessary. You will need to use your own initiative to resolve issues, and to be able to work under pressure in a very demanding environment.

The primary aim of this role is to prevent and resolve customer homelessness. Our Housing Options Officers are responsible for ensuring the Council’s Statutory Duty is adhered to, and that we provide essential advice and assistance to people presenting in crisis.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have experience of working in a customer focused environment including front line customer service experience
  • Have knowledge of Housing Acts particularly Homelessness and Allocations   
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Have good planning and organising skills
  • Are accurate and attentive to detail
  • Are confident using Jigsaw, Abritas and databases
  • Are empathetic and able to deal with customers in a sensitive and appropriate manner in a demanding environment
  • Have experience of applying the relevant legislation
