It is an exciting time for Stoke-on- Trent’s Children’s Services where innovation and creative practice is being celebrated and encouraged. S-o-T’s Children’s Services want to provide the best service to our children and families and partner agencies through a high functioning front door.  The children’s advice & duty service (ChAD) is a conversation based referral process.  This new way of receiving contacts and referrals we hope will provide opportunities for professionals to have meaningful discussion with our staff that result in interventions at the right time by the right service. This evidence based approach will lead to fewer referrals and in turn fewer children requiring unnecessary assessments that do not lead to the provision of support services.

We are seeking an experienced and resilient service manager to lead the Children’s advice and duty service and join our management team, taking a pivotal role in our improvement journey to achieving ‘good’.  We’re looking for people who have a genuine interest in relationship-based practice and a strengths-based approach to building effective relationships with children, families, communities and partner agencies. These ways of working are being embedded through our Restorative Practice Approach that is being rolled out across Children’s Services. If you’re a committed, passionate and enthusiastic individual with significant experience of making a difference to the lives of children and young people we want to hear from you. If you have a good understanding of partnership MASH arrangements & assessment practice this could be the role for you.  You will need to demonstrate strong decision making ability and excellent verbal and written& negotiation skills. Previous MASH experience would be desirable.

You will have the ability to manage crisis and leadership skills in managing change.  The successful applicant will have experience of managing and supporting a social work team and have comprehensive experience of assessment and analysis of risk. The right person will have a working knowledge of multi-agency partnerships and the roles and responsibilities of key partner agencies, along with excellent relational skills and the ability to negotiate in complex and emotionally charged situations.

We require a highly experienced practitioner who actively relishes taking on new challenges and broadening your skills.

To be considered for a position you must have a degree in Social Work or equivalent, be registered with Social Work England and be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment.  This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

For an informal discussion please contact Sheena Adams, Strategic Manager on 07385362861.
