Job Details

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic new member to our Planning Team ideally as a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer (37 hours, Grade J, £32,234 - £35,745 plus up to £1k essential car allowance); but would consider a Planning Enforcement Officer development role (37 hours, Grade H, £25,481 – £27,741 plus up to £1k essential car allowance) for the right candidate.

Planning for South Staffordshire

Are you an experienced planning or enforcement officer looking for the next step in your planning career and a chance to take on more responsibility, gain further experience and develop your planning skills at South Staffordshire?  Alternatively, we may be able to offer a career graded Planning Enforcement Officer role to a suitable person who has the right skills, enthusiasm and attitude to work towards becoming a Senior Officer.

With a Local Plan review underway, we’ve invested additional resources into our planning service and now have an exciting opportunity in our Planning Enforcement team.  We’re looking to recruit a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer or possibly a Planning Enforcement Officer into one of our career graded planning officer roles This is a great opportunity whether you are an experienced officer, are looking for a more senior role, or would like to expand your experience in a forward-thinking local planning authority.

South Staffordshire is a diverse district, made up of a collection of large and small villages, each with its own distinctive character set in an attractive semi-rural area on the western edge of the West Midlands conurbation.  Around 80% of the district is Green Belt and we have a rich legacy of historic buildings and conservation areas. We are also home to some major employers such as Jaguar Land Rover and Moog Aerospace on our i54 South Staffordshire site, one of our 4 strategic employment sites.

We would ideally like to recruit a senior planning enforcement officer who can hit the ground running and has the experience to take on major cases, and who would be able to mentor colleagues and help them broaden their experience.  But we will look favourably on a candidate who already has some planning experience and who is keen to enhance their skills.

Why work for South Staffordshire Council?

We are an award-winning Council that has lots to offer.  We support flexible and agile ways of working, have strong IT support, great access by road to the Council offices in Codsall and free car parking. We’re located within a 5-minute walk of Bilbrook train station which is a short journey from Wolverhampton station and 25 minutes from Birmingham New Street.  Our main offices in Codsall are currently undergoing modernisation and refurbishment to provide a real community hub with partner organisations, local businesses, library, doctors surgery and cafe all in one central location.

Closing Date for Applications:  If you would like to join our forward-thinking planning team, please apply by 5pm on Monday 21st June 2021

Interview Dates:

MS Teams – Monday 28th June 2021 (and Wednesday 30th June 2021 if needed)

You are welcome to contact Lead Planning Manager, Kelly Harris, for an informal discussion about the vacancies by calling 07966 255463 or by emailing k.harris@sstaffs.gov.uk or Catherine Gutteridge, Planning Enforcement Team Manager on 07811 026228 or by emailing c.gutteridge@sstaffs.gov.uk
