What is the job role?

Do you have an understanding of alcohol and health related issues, the Recovery Agenda and experience of working with adults and/or young people individually in an addictions or social care setting? All you need is the perfect environment to put your skills to great use; welcome to Aquarius as a Senior Practitioner.

Right now, we’re looking for someone like you to join Aquarius as part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Family Drug and Alcohol Court Team (FDAC). This very effective, successful and award winning service takes a problem‐solving approach to improving outcomes for children involved in care proceedings. The team, which includes social workers, family psychologists, substance misuse specialists, children & family workers, provide intensive support, built around the individuals/family; designed to enable/empower parents to solve problems and overcome their difficulties. The Family Drug and Alcohol Court offers an alternative (and more successful) way of helping parents to overcome their substance misuse, mental health and domestic abuse problems that have put their children at risk of serious harm.

Your challenge? To provide advice, brief and longer term structured interventions, group programmes and training courses to individuals, families and couples. In addition, you will encourage ‘graduates’ of the programme to become ‘Parent Mentors’, supporting other FDAC parents through the process and enhancing their own and others recovery. You’ll be working from the FDAC offices and court locations in Coventry and Warwickshire. Developing care plans, liaising with external agencies and assessing and writing reports for the court – you’ll do all of this, and more, whilst, working in a way that recognises and values diversity and make the most of your understanding of the functional model of substance misuse, the model of change, CBT and commitment to Recovery.

A confident and energetic self‐starter, you have a qualification in health/social care, youth and community work (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies). Alternatively, we’ll consider candidates with experience of working in the substance misuse field with a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. As well as good knowledge alcohol/drug and health related issues, you're used to liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals and comfortable having difficult conversations and managing risk on a daily basis. What’s more, you enjoy working autonomously and within a team, have a flexible approach, a commitment to the principles of confidentiality and excellent record keeping and office IT skills (Microsoft Office).

  • The salary for this post is £24,181.00 - £26,804.00 per annum.
  • This is a full time post requiring the post-holder to work 37 hours per week.
  • This is a fixed-term role for 18 months.

We are committed to increasing our diversity and we would welcome applications from those with lived experience and/or who are from a BAME background.

Closing Date for applications is 28th June 2021. (We reserve the right to close vacancies before the specified closing date, should a large number of applications be received).

So, are you ready to take on this rewarding role that comes with some really great benefits? If so, apply now via the below link for the opportunity to be considered for this unique position.
