About the Role

As part of the Walsall Proud Programme Service Transformation Plan, Walsall Fostering Service has taken the opportunity to develop a new and innovative Fostering Support & Stability Team that will take the lead on developing and offering support to our foster carers.

Walsall Council have an exciting opportunity for a Targeted Youth Worker to join Walsall’s Fostering Service, newly created Support and Stability Team. 

Walsall are Proud to be in a position whereby we can offer Walsall Foster Carers this additional support.  The successful candidate will work closely with two Fostering Support Workers and report to the Senior Practitioner for the Support & Stability Team. 

By working closely with other areas of the Fostering Service, social work teams and partner agencies, the purpose of the team is to strengthen the support on offer to our foster carers, bringing greater stability and improving permanence for Walsall’s Looked after Children.

Who we are looking for

  • Candidates who are dedicated, positive and passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people
  • People who work restoratively and have the ability to develop positive, nurturing relationships with foster carers, children, their families and other key professionals that we work in partnership with
  • You will be adaptable, have good interpersonal and a broad range of knowledge and skills including child development and the impact of trauma and adversity. 
  • Be able to work with a degree of independence and autonomy.  Also, dependant on service needs, be willing to work in the evenings
  • Hold a qualification in Youth Work equivalent to NVQ Level 4 or other relevant professional qualification or a good standard of education – to NVQ L4 or equivalent.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.  The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
