Job Details

As AP/AR Officer, you will join the team on a 12 month fixed term contract and assist in the efficient and timely processing of sales and purchase invoices, payments to suppliers and maintaining records relating to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards. WMCA operates a ‘No PO no payment’ policy and so you’ll be used to working to set standards and procedures.

What will you be doing?

  • Assist with the efficient and timely processing and control of purchase invoices and payments to suppliers in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards
  • Assist with the efficient processing of payments to travel operators, adult education providers and other ad-hoc payments in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards
  • Assist with the efficient and timely processing and control of sales invoices and allocation of payments received to the ledger in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards
  • Assist with the collection of overdue amounts in accordance with agreed policy and procedures
  • Assist with regular reconciliation processes to ensure the integrity of the sales and purchase ledgers
  • Assist with the smooth resolution of supplier and customer queries
  • Assist with developing and maintaining up to date procedure notes for all key processes

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience of working in a finance environment, with previous experience of processing sales and purchase invoices, and making payments to suppliers.

You’ll need a good working knowledge of MS Office (Word and Excel, to Intermediate level and with the ability to perform VLOOKUPs) and be comfortable liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders and customers. We use Business World and experience of this system would be highly desirable but not essential.

About the team

Our Finance & Business Hub provides essential enabling services to the West Midlands Combined Authority in areas such as Procurement, Finance, HR & Organisational Development, Risk Management and Business Planning. The Finance Team sites at the very heart of this Hub and is responsible for managing all the finances of the organisation. They are responsible for all the money coming in and going out. They provide financial information to help ensure the firm is controlling their credit well, help departments manage good decisions, ensure cash is available to meet objectives, prepare financial statements, monitor the funds of the business and ensure bills are paid. They are Payroll, Accounts Payable, Receivable, Business Partners and everyday finance business planning.
