As Assistant Data Analyst you will join the Technical Team at Midlands Connect and have an important part to play in the continued development and enhancement of the Midlands Connect Strategy. You will use your technical skills to develop data analysis which will support the evidence base behind the refresh of the Midlands Connect Strategy. Following publication of the Strategy you will work closely with delivery bodies (incl. Highways England, Network Rail and Local Authorities) to develop evidence to deliver the priorities set in the Strategy. The analysis undertaken to support the strategy will filter down into the individual corridors and business cases within the strategy. What will you be doing?
  • Deliver work in a timely and efficient manner to the levels of quality and accuracy required, in order to provide an effective technical support service to internal and external customers
  • Analyse data using a range of tools and techniques to contribute to the team's production of intelligence and management information
  • Carry out research, gather data and perform analysis and calculations to support the development of intelligence and management information, or engineering solutions, by the team
  • Act as a lead delivery resource on project work streams related to area of specialism to ensure that the project is delivered to time, cost and quality standards
  • Monitor systems, processes and practices within area of specialism, plan and carry out regular reviews to identify opportunities for improvement in light of changing needs, feedback and/or current best practice thinking
  • Carry out all work in line with standards and procedures and identify actual compliance issues in order to ensure that work delivered complies with all necessary requirements
  • Attend external forums where necessary, in order to keep up-to-date with best practice and ensure personal awareness of relevant issues
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Midlands Connect to ensure the technical services provided to the organisation are efficient, effective and support wider business objectives
  • Be pro-active in your approach to learning new data analytical techniques to support business needs

About you

You will be numerate with demonstrable experience with analytics and data management to support decision making. You will be competent in a range of tools to analyse, manage and share data with a willingness to learn new tools and data analytical techniques to serve business needs as and when required. You will be pro-active in your approach to learn new technology and apply new ways of thinking to your work. The type of skills sought for the position are:

  • GIS skills to analyse and present spatial data
  • Experience with Excel
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Strong data analytical and visualisation skills
  • An ability to present complex analysis and concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Experience with creating, managing and querying databases
In addition to strong data analytical skills you will be organised and flexible to manage your own workload and assist other team members as and when required. You will be a team player and work collaboratively to achieve collective goals.

These initiatives will create more capacity for passengers and freight on the Midlands’ roads and railways.
