Job Details

In collaboration with the Group Payroll Manager & the Head of HR, you will develop and implement a Reward and Recognition Strategy that is aligned to WMCA’s strategic priorities.  This will include the design, development and implementation of appropriate policies and governance, pay structures and processes, benefits, flexible benefits, total reward statements and reward communications policies, as well as the implementation of a job families/job evaluation framework that provides the foundation for future strategic policies and agility to allow future development.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop and implement appropriate reward policies to ensure the success of WMCA reward strategy
  • Conduct all role evaluations, and the ongoing review of job evaluation processes and improved processes
  • Establish job families and ensure job profiles are in place for all roles with review cycle in place
  • Review job families/grading structure that is fair, compliant, robust and fit for future requirements
  • Chair the fortnightly Job Evaluation Panel
  • Design and development of a career pathways programme enabling future staff development
  • Provide specialist and proactive reward expertise to business areas and the HR team
  • Source, maintain and participate in reward, benefits and recognition surveys to enable external salary benchmarking, ensuring our offer remains competitive, appropriate, relevant, inclusive and meets legislative requirements
  • Ensure insight from internal sources is used to inform future reward, benefits, and recognition activity
  • Manage the relationship with the WMCA’s discounts platform provider, to ensure the offering remains fit for purpose and provides value for money

About you

We’re looking for a skilled reward specialist with in-depth knowledge of current reward trends and expertise in job evaluation, grading and the development of pay ranges. Above this, we’d like you to have a relevant reward-related qualification and/or professional qualification at Level 5 or above and be able to demonstrate continuous professional development in the field of Reward and Recognition.

You’ll be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of market practice reward and benefits and have good knowledge and understanding of corporate HR policies & procedures. Your specialist knowledge of job evaluation and pay benchmarking techniques and of benefits design and delivery, will be of interest to us.

We’re looking for some who is highly numerate, with good analytical skills, able to review information and determining the best approach and someone who is well networked within the reward arena.

Our Finance & Business Hub provides essential high-quality, responsive, and agile enabling services to the West Midlands Combined Authority and its directorates in areas such as human resources, procurement, commercial investments, assurance and appraisal, financial control and administration, and financial and business planning and performance reporting.
