Post: Part-Time Teacher of ICT and Digital Technologies

Permanent Post: (10 hours per week) 0.3 FTE 

Hours of work: 1.5 days per week (10 hours), days to be agreed with the successful candidate.

T-Levels are new and exciting technical qualifications that combine classroom learning, in our brand-new Digital Hub, and on the job experience during a unique industry placement. T-Levels help young people to fast track their career and get a head start by ensuring that they are industry ready and equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and personal attributes to succeed in the diverse range of industry that need ICT/ digital experts.

About Walsall Studio School
Walsall Studio School is an academy that is a founding member of The Mercian Trust. Located in the new Goldmine Centre on the edge of Walsall town centre, Walsall Studio School offers a new approach to education for young people who achieve their very best through practical learning.
Our unique Studio School and Sixth Form enables young people to immerse themselves in ‘creative industry specialisms’, achieve industry-recognised qualifications, build relationships with employers and ultimately progress onto top universities, conservatoires or apprenticeships.

Specialising in a broad range of creative and digital disciplines, Walsall Studio School is the ‘perfect fit’ for 14-19 year olds who are looking to develop their skills for employment in the 21st century.

Ideally, you will have experience of teaching on a range of Level 2 and 3 computing study programmes. However, we also value industry experience and for the right candidate, training opportunities are available within the school to support those switching from industry or looking for their first teaching post.

The successful candidate should have experience of working in the following industry areas and/or have the ability to teach some/all of the specialisms listed below:

• Website Development: Client (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and server side (PHP & MySQL) languages. A knowledge of WAMP/ XAMP or USBWebserer

• Software Development: SDLC, models and languages (inc. Python, C++, C#, Java, VB.net) along with appropriate IDEs (Visual Studio 2017 (with mobile emulator), Eclipse, NetBeans)

The ability to teach the following specialisms is considered highly desirable:

• HCI and multimedia: Knowledge of modern HCI developments as a good understand of multimedia software such as Adobe Creative Cloud applications

• Database Development: with Access and SQL

You will be expected to strive to maintain good or outstanding success rates in all areas, using innovation within your teaching and assessing, utilising digital platforms and e-learning where appropriate.

You should be a skilled communicator and have excellent organisational skills. You should be qualified to degree level or equivalent, have a recognised teaching qualification (or be willing to gain your qualifications), and be able to demonstrate a wide range of both academic and practical skills. Having links to employers would also be of great advantage.
